Robert Bugbee Defiant II C&C 33 Mark II Port Credit Yacht Club Co-skipper: Joe Doris
Defiant has registered and started the last 11 LO300 events beginning 1994 and has finished 9 of the 10 with respectable results. Except for years 2000 and 2005, all entries were in the "double handed" division and the co-skipper was Mark Searle of PCYC.
1994 was an accomplishment, completing the race in 62 hours and the 3rd boat of 14 to finish. The race to and from Main Duck was upwind as it turned with us. We sailed the entire race without seeing another boat.
1998 was a drop-out due to light to no wind and with time commitments later in the week.
1999 was most satisfying of all, with a lapse time of 62 hours and line honours, 1st in fleet, and 1st in division.
2000 entry was in the fully crewed division and our fastest return with a lapsed time of 57 hours.
2002 was a drop-out due to extreme weather and safety considerations.
2003 was the first of the revised course and we finished with a lapse time of 65 hours. In my opinion the course would be much improved by dropping the Gibraltar and Whitby marks to eliminate the shoreline effects.

Skipper Thanos Kaponeridis from ABYC participated previously at the inaugural DHLOC in 1991 at the Fujinon 300 with crew Jim Lackie, in 1992 with crew Malcolm Willis, and in 1993 with crew Ed Wilson with a Dufour 27 “Keel-Kiss".

Rick Sellens Dragon III Hughes 35 Kingston Yacht Club Co-skipper: Laura Tattersall
Dragon III was cruised gently for most of her years and never saw a spinnaker until 2004.
2004 was a fun year of club racing and local events. (That's us dousing the red, black and white approaching the leeward mark at EYC.)
2005 took us up the Lakes for a circumnavigation of Manitoulin Island and a very enjoyable time at the Georgian Bay Sailing Regatta. The delivery trip included beating double handed into 25 knots plus most of the way from Kingston to Port Dalhousie, which seemed like good prep for the LO 300.

Michael Judd Heart Breaker S2 9.1 Bronte Harbour Yacht Club Co-skipper: Edward Tait
Heart Breaker is my second sailboat purchased in the spring of 2005 on Lake Erie, the first being JUJUBE, a fantastic little Tanzer 25. I raced JUJUBE extensively all over the western end of Lake Ontario, doing quite respectably. We have now taken on the challenge of the larger, faster, and more powerful S2 and are enjoying it immensely.
I delivered Heart Breaker to Lake Ontario by way of a glorious, albeit stormy and cold, solo sail down the middle of Lake Erie last April. Being such a fan of solo and short-handed sailing, I have been wanting to do "the big Lake Ontario Race" for years but for many reasons was unable to.
Both Ed and I are looking forward to the challenge and competition of our first 300.

Gerry Dogherty(crew) and myself (skipper) have done the Solmar Lake Ontario 300 race five times.
In 2002 we were the only boat to finish in our division due to bad weather. We're hoping for good winds and nice weather this year.

David Angas Mananan Aloha 8.5 The Oakville Club Co-skipper: Mickey Angas
This is our first attempt at the Solmar Lake Ontario 300 and another adventure in our lives together. MANANAN is the god that protects the Isle Of Man. She is a strong willing vessel with no racing pedigree but with the courage to match her crew.
We have done a lot of sailing but nothing quite like this. We are looking forward to the start on Thursday and a safe return.....whenever!"

Gary Benner Shock Therapy Schock 35 Royal Canadian Yacht Club Co-skipper: Pat Sturgeon
This will be the 8th L.O. 300 for Gary Benner and Pat Sturgeon (noted yacht broker), although we haven't sailed the race since 1998.
We finished the ugly 1994 race on my CS 30 Amarone when very few did. We have seen it all - the storms, the flies, the calms, the freighters. We love this race!
Shock Therapy is a great light air boat that enjoys those quiet nights. Hopefully, we won't see you out there although feel free to call us to discuss the appropriate vintage for the conditions.

Len Alksnis Trimpus CS 30 Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club
Co-Skipper: Patianne Verburgh
Trimpus has been racing on Lake Ontario since 1985. This will be her 11th Solmar Lake Ontario 300. Since the first entered by us in 1991, all but
2003 have been double handed. Our best finish was first overall in the double-handed fleet in 2000. That year we also beat all but two of the fully crewed boats.
We took 1998 off from the 300 to charter Blade for the Chicago-Mackinac Race and in 2004 took Trimpus to Lake Huron for the Bayview-Mackinac Race and the Mackinac-Manitoulin International Yacht Race which we won overall. These two races are worth the effort required to get a boat and crew to Lake Huron and the North Channel. Racing in the North Channel at night is a challenging experience.
Other race achievements for Trimpus include first overall in the 1997 Freeman Cup race, best PHRF boat overall in the 2003 CORK Offshore Regatta, 2003 Key West Race Week and 2003 Ft. Lauderdale-Key West Race (it helps to have Trimpus on a trailer) and numerous LORC, LYRA and Youngstown victories.
All of these races are different and great fun. The 300, however, has been the most fun of all over the years. Look forward to it again this year.
