Team racing can add additional intrigue and strategy to your race. It can also add funding to your Club's Junior Sailing Instructional Program. The Solmar Lake Ontario 300 - Skippers' Plan Team Challenge is an added feature of the existing Solmar Lake Ontario 300, with a trophy and awards presented to the winning teams according to the scoring criteria defined below.

Team Composition:

  • In the Spinnaker Fleets, a qualifying team must be comprised of three LO300 competing yachts from the same Yacht Club, all competing on the same course. Teams may be any combination of fully crewed or double handed yachts.
  • In the White Sails Fleets, a qualifying team must be comprised of two LO300 competing yachts from the same Yacht Club. Teams may be any combination of fully crewed or double handed yachts.
  • Using the Team Challenge entry form (downloadable from the LO300 web site), all teams must submit their completed registration to the LO300 race committee before the end of the skippers meeting.
  • Each yacht can only be on one team.
  • There is no limit to the number of teams that can be entered from each Club.

Scoring:

  • To be scored, all yachts in a team must successfully START the race, and not be scored as a DNS.
  • Each course will be scored independently.
  • All yachts will be scored in an overall fleet position (based on their corrected time) regardless of whether they were part of a team or not.
  • Individual team scores will be calculated by adding up the total points (using a low point scoring system) awarded to the yachts in the team.
  • Points will be awarded to the yachts in competing teams according to the Low Point Scoring System defined in the RRS in Appendix A.
  • First place will be awarded to the team with the lowest point total.
  • In the case of a tie, the winning team will be the team with the best scoring yacht.

Awards:

  • The Skippers' Plan Team Challenge trophy will be presented jointly to the winning teams of both the 300 Nautical Mile Course and the 300 Kilometre Course.
  • The Skippers' Plan will present a monetary award to all winning teams according to the formula defined below. The monetary award MUST go in its entirety to the Youth Learn to Sail program of the Club represented by each winning team.
  • The awards will be distributed:
      300 Nautical Mile Course
      • $500 to the first place team
      • $200 to the second place team
      • $100 to each team placing third to ninth
      300 Kilometre Course
      • $300 to the first place team
      • $100 to each team placing second to fourth
